Packhouse

ITFC has built a packing facility in Gushie, approximately 9 Kilometres from the Nucleus farm. The packing facility is also GLOBALGAP and organic certified with the Soil Association of the U.K.

The facility is the first of its kind in the Northern Sector of Ghana, equiped with a refrigeration unit and mechanized packing line. The packing line cosist of a dump bath, a brush washer, a hot water bath, a brush dryer, a sorting table and a sizing machine. Solidaridad, inconjuction with AgroFair Assistance and Development for CTM Bolzano of Italy provided partial funding for the packing equipment.

The faclity has the capacity to pack five tons of produce per hour or two forty feet containers per day. The facility employees approximately ninety workers in the peak of the packing season. The water used in the facility is pumped from an underground borehole. ITFC is in the process of expanding the facility to include a drying unit where by, non exportable fruit can be processed and also sold for bulk export.
