ITFC has a modern nursery at the same location as the Nulceus farm. It has the capacity to produce 347,648 healthy and vigorous seedlings per year that can withstand the harsh environmental conditions in Sub-Saharan Africa. The nursery has three black nylon shade nets that protect the seedlings from 60% of the sun's rays. There is a total of 16 blocks under the shade nets and each block contains 21,728 seedlings. The nursery uses drip irrigation to supply its plants with water that is sourced from the White Volta River as well as from the company's private borehole. Each plant can be provided 0.8 litres of water per hour.
The nursery is currently focusing on the production of the Kent and Keitt varieties but has the capacity to work with other popular varieties upon request. ITFC uses a portion of its nursery space for experimental planting techniques for future improvement of current methods. Currently experiments are taking place with planting medium and planting density, while the propogation of indigenous trees species is also a focal point. ITFC also maintains a 'Mother Block' which is 5.14 hectares, with a planting density of 2m x 6m. The Mother Block is planted with several popular varieties of mango and is used solely for the supply of scions (cuttings) to the nursery.
At ITFC, our vision is to be a pioneer in the production of the highest quality of grafted seedlings in Sub-Saharan Africa. To achieve this vision, the nursery staff has been trained by international nursery specialists and prides themselves in the up to date techniques of grafting mangoes that can withstand the environmental conditions of the savannah. An Assistant Manager is in charge of the nursery and reports to the General Manager. The nursery has a work force of 36 men and women despite the ultra modern facilities in operation. This work force makes sure that sanitation at the nursery is of the highest standard. If you are interested in purchasing seedlings, please inform us at least 4 months in advance.
